Members of the Longview team have long been involved in the development and running of a variety of public-private partnerships based in the CCUS space:
- The development of the International Test Centre for CO2 Capture at the University of Regina (now CETRI – Centre for Energy Technologies Research Institute) with involvement from a number of major energy companies.
- Development and operation of the Reservoir Characterization Project at the Colorado School of Mines. This project has extensive industry participation to provide both Geophysics research and well-trained students for industry.
- Creation of the IEA Greenhouse Gas R&D Programme Weyburn CO2 Storage Project. An extensive research program including personnel from a number of countries to evaluate the safe storage of CO2 in a geological setting.
This background has provided the basis for the team develop expertise in CCUS that has led to work on the Boundary Dam CO2 Capture Project, the first commercial project for CO2 capture from a coal-fired power plant. Also involvement in the development of the IPCC 2005 Special Report on CO2 Capture and Storage and the development of ISO standards for CCUS.
In addition, the team has had involvement in the construction and use of small scale units for testing solvents for CO2 capture in an industrial environment.
